Will You Be Able to Age in Your Place? | Portland, Or

Will You Be Able to Age in Your Place? | Portland, Or We all get older. It happens to the best of us.  The National Center for Biotechnology Information says that hearing and vision impairments dramatically increase the risk for falls, which in turn, leads to increased loss of mobility.  What if more lighting could help? The National Council on Aging says more lighting- especially at the top and bottom of stairs  can help prevent falls- with will help keep you up and moving longer.  The Centers for Disease Control take the lighting recommendation one step further and advocate for light switches at the bottom and top of every staircase.  Both sources also say handrails- on both sides of the staircase and next to the toilet and in a spot suitable for helping you get into and out of a shower or tub are a good idea as well.  If you want to stay in your home while you enjoy your golden years, you need to take control of the situation now!
